(Massena) The United States will celebrate its 250th anniversary—also known as the Semiquincentennial—on July 4, 2026, marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. To commemorate the milestone, the Massena Chamber of Commerce is hosting a two-day celebration, beginning Friday, July 3.
The Chamber hosted a community meeting on Tuesday to gather feedback and recruit volunteers for the festivities.
Chamber Vice-President Doug Venteicher says the event already has strong community backing, with several residents stepping up to help. One decision is set in stone: the parade, which will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 4.
Activities discussed at the meeting include a kids’ parade, adult scavenger hunts, a bag tournament, pedal pulls, a foam party, and a beer garden. Other possible events still being considered include a fun run, “keg and eggs,” park games, bingo, an Ag Adventure, inflatables, a tractor and car show, and an all-class reunion.
The planning committee will continue meeting monthly in preparation for the celebration.
