(Lewis) — Iowa Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Biologist John Lorenzen says a drone will be used this week to spray Lotus plants at Lake Manawa and Lake Anita with an aquatic-approved herbicide that is safe for the ecosystem. He says the lilies have become a problem.
Lorenzen explains the DNR contracted a drone for the job due to the size of the lakes — Lake Manawa covers about 100 acres and Lake Anita about 45 acres — and because the department doesn’t have equipment to treat that much area. He expects the drone’s visibility may prompt some calls to his office and encourages anyone with questions to contact the DNR Office in Lewis.
