(Ames) — Iowa State is diving straight into Big 12 football this year with an international conference opener. The Cyclones will face off against Kansas State on August 23 at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.
ISU Head Coach Matt Campbell addressed the media during last week’s football media day, saying the season will quickly reveal key answers about his squad. He emphasized that toughness will be essential this year and that consistency will be a major focus.
Leading the offense is quarterback Rocco Becht, a returning starter entering his third year. Becht started all 14 games last season, guiding the Cyclones to a historic double-digit win total — a first for the program.
Campbell says Beck has shown the ability to play great situational football. He says this season it’s more about continuing to master the offense and evolve.
Becht has thrown a touchdown pass in 18 consecutive games, the longest streak in school history. In 2024, he threw for 3,505 yards and 25 touchdowns — both the second-highest single-season marks in ISU history. He also rushed for eight touchdowns, the most by a Big 12 quarterback and fifth-most by a Cyclone QB all-time. His 33 total touchdowns rank second in program history, and he tallied 3,823 yards of total offense.
The ISU vs Kansas St. game on August 23 kicks off at 11:00 a.m. Central Standard Time. All the games will be broadcast on KSOM with John Walters and Eric Heft.
