(Des Moines) The heat continues today in western, southern, and central Iowa. The National Weather Service issued an Extreme Heat Warning for all of western, southern, and central Iowa today from noon to 8:00 p.m.
Forecasters are calling for dangerously hot conditions this afternoon through the evening hours, with heat index values expected to reach 110 to 115 degrees.
Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, avoid the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.
