(Omaha/Valley) Severe thunderstorms packing high winds prompted severe thunderstorm warnings in west central and southwest Iowa early this morning.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for 60 to 70 mile per hour winds, and penny-sized hail in northwestern Pottawattamie County, Harrison County, and Southwestern Shelby counties at around 3:07 a.m. The weather service reported that a roof was blown off a home in Mondamin, in Harrison County, at around 3:21 a.m.
The storm continued in a southeasterly direction at 35 to 40 miles per hour, prompting warnings in northeastern Fremont, Montgomery, Mills, and eastern Pottawattamie counties at approximately 3:38 a.m. However, that warning was allowed to expire early.
