(Wapello County) A woman was airlifted to the University of Iowa Health with serious injuries when the vehicle she was riding in was struck by a train in Wapello County, Iowa.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened on Monday afternoon at around 4:40 p.m. on 215th Avenue south of Highway 34. Authorities identified the woman as 57-year-old Maria Laura Juarez, of Hope Mills, North Carolina, a front-seat passenger in a car driven by 57-year-old Juan Torres Juarez.
According to the report, a train struck the southbound 2004 Buick Park Avenue driven by Juarez, who failed to yield to the train passing through the intersection.
Juarez and a rear passenger escaped injury.
