(Atlantic) The 12th Annual Smackdown weekend in Atlantic is right around the corner, and sign-ups for the golf tournament are underway. Kevin Ferguson, chairman of the Smackdown Committee, says the weekend begins with the Alumni Banquet on Friday, August 15, at 6:00 p.m. at the Cass County Community Center.
The cost of the meal is $35.00 per person, and it is open to all Atlantic Alumni. To register for the banquet and golf tournament, go to atlanticiowa.com.
The golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday, August 16, at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club and Nishna Hills starting at 9:00 a.m.
The annual golf outing is followed by Smackdown After Dark at Sunnyside Park, and is open to the Public. The band Galivant will perform at the Bandshell at Sunnyside Park.
Additionally, Ferguson says a committee has formed to work on various initiatives to roll Smackdown under the umbrella of the Alumni Association. The goal is to accumulate as many email addresses as possible and reach out to alumni to share the latest community happenings. The committee is discussing podcasts with alumni who have a story to tell that many people may not know. Saturday, August 16 – Smackdown Golf Tournament
The annual golf tournament begins Saturday morning with check-in from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. at Atlantic Golf & Country Club and at Nishna Hills Golf Course. The four-person scramble costs $200 per team. Golf carts can be reserved in advance for an additional $75, with a reservation deadline of August 8.

Saturday Evening – Smackdown After Dark
Sunnyside Park will host a free concert Saturday evening featuring the band Galivant at the bandshell. The concert is open to the public, providing a relaxed setting for alumni and area residents to spend time together following the golf tournament.
Strengthening Alumni Connections
This year’s event also marks a shift toward more coordinated alumni outreach. A local task force is working to build a centralized contact list, introduce new storytelling efforts including a podcast series, and increase collaboration between alumni and the community. The Smackdown Weekend, now in its twelfth year, will officially operate under the Atlantic Alumni Association going forward.
