Former Audubon Wheeler, Gavin Smith is about begin his senior season at Central College in Pella. During his time at Central, Gavin has been a standout athlete for the Dutch, receiving multiple honors in two sports. Smith enrolled at Central three years ago with the plan of playing football and running track in Pella and has done a great job for both programs.
Smith has started at DB with Central for two years now, and in 2024 was First Team All-Conference in the American Rivers Conference as well as receiving Second-Team All-American honors as he led Central with 11 pass break-ups and three interceptions. Smith did all this despite finishing the season with an injured shoulder.
Smith elected to skip the track season to undergo surgery on his shoulder.
Smith said skipping the track season was a tough decision for him, as he qualified for the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2023 in the decathlon. But he plans to use that as fuel to work even harder ahead of his final year.
Smith said he is grateful for the opportunities Central College has given him.
