(Audubon, IA) — Two conference baseball rivals collide in a Western Iowa Conference match up as Riverside visits Audubon tonight, coverage on KSOM. The start time has been moved up 5:00 pm to hopefully accommodate for the weather.
Riverside comes in with a record of 2-10 — the Bulldogs are trying to break a 6 game losing streak. Head Coach Kyler Morgan says he wants to get back to the basics, throw strikes, play good defense and put the ball in play. Riverside is hitting it with a team batting average of .311 but the team ERA is 11.54. Morgan says if the pitchers throw strikes, everything else can fall into place
With the bats, Sophomore Victor Alfonso is having a big season hitting .394 and Senior Paxtyn Meek is batting .371
Tonight is an important game for the Bulldogs with tough games coming up on the schedule like a doubleheader with #1 ranked Underwood and a non conference game with Shenandoah. Morgan hopes his team is up for the challenge
Audubon is 4-9 and has won three in a row coming into tonight’s game with 1 run wins over West Central Valley and IKM Manning and a 4-2 victory over AHSTW. In all three games, the Wheelers used big innings. Against the Wildcats, Audubon trailed 5-0 but scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th and twice in the bottom of the 7th to win it. Against the Wolves, they scored 5 runs in the 5th to build a 7-1 lead. Against the Vikings, it was 4 runs in the 6th to rally for the win. Senior Adam Obrecht leads the bats hitting .391 with 12 RBI.
Game time is at 5 pm tonight, coverage on KSOM.
