(Stuart, IA) West Central Valley boys soccer has had a terrific season so far this year and it’s not done yet. The undefeated Wildcats have a record of 16-0-1 with their only tie coming against Des Moines Christian. The Wildcats were able to get over the hump this year in the district championship game with a 2-1 win over Pella Christian.
Head coach Matt Smith says it was a great win as they were able to overcome a shaky start.
West Central Valley will be taking on Hudson in the state quarterfinals, a team that boasts the best attack in 1A, leading the class in goals scored. The Wildcats will need a clean game defensively against the Pirates and that starts with the goalkeeper. Junior Gabe Gerling has been great in between the sticks this season for West Central Valley, only allowing 10 goals in 17 games.
The Wildcats attack is lead by a trifecta, with three players on the season all surpassing the 10 goal mark. A pair of juniors in Trajan Rummel and Aiden Brandon lead the team in goals with senior Alan Diaz not far behind.
Smith says he wants his team to be aggressive early.
West Central Valley will take on Hudson, in Hudson starting at 5:00 p.m. tonight.
