(Denison) – The Atlantic softball team wrapped up the week on a high note. After a setback against Missouri Valley on Wednesday, the Trojans bounced back with a string of victories, defeating Glenwood on Tuesday, Ballard on Friday, and sweeping Denison-Schleswig in a Saturday doubleheader with scores of 6-0 and 13-3 (five innings).
Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann praised his team’s strong performance, highlighting sophomore Peyton McLaren’s dominant outing in game one. McLaren threw a complete-game shutout, striking out eight Monarch batters while the Trojans scored six runs to secure the win.
In game two, Atlantic’s offense came alive. Every player in the lineup recorded a hit, and nearly everyone crossed the plate in a 13-3 rout. The Trojans added insurance runs throughout, including a three-run burst in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach. Coach Hinzmann credited the improved hitting for the decisive win.
Brynn Lamp picked up the win in the circle for the Trojans. Coach Hinzmann says Lamp had a solid performance in her first major varsity outing.
The Trojans have another busy week, with a doubleheader at Harlan on Monday, a trip to Creston on Tuesday, followed by a road trip to Shenandoah on Thursday, and a return home on Friday against Estherville-Lincoln Central and Carlisle.
