(Council Bluffs, IA) The Pottawattamie Medical Examiners Department received the LEGACI award from the Iowa Donor Network for the county’s outstanding work in organ and tissue donations throughout the year. The LEGACI award is given by the Iowa Donor Network to partner agencies and team members for going above and beyond in collaboration with IDN on its mission of transforming lives through organ and tissue donation.
Pottawattamie county reported 123 deaths in 2024 to the Iowa Donor Network, which lead to a total of nine tissue donors. According to IDN, one tissue donor can impact anywhere from 50 to 300 individuals. Those nine donors could be responsible for impacting anywhere between 450 to 2,700 lives. The opportunities to become a donor are only possible because Pottawattamie county submits referrals to IDN.
So far in 2025, Pottawattamie county is responsible for five tissue donors.

Pottawattamie county also approved and signed multiple proclamations. They dedicating the month of May 2025 as Mental Health Awareness Month, the designated May 11-17, 2025 as National Police Week and signed another proclamation designating the month of May as Meth Prevention Month.
