(Atlantic, IA — It will be a first for Atlantic girls wrestling, trying to send wrestlers to the girls state tournament in a Trojan uniform and they have a long way to go. Atlantic will have to go all the way to Central Decatur High School which is just north of Lamoni near the Missouri border off of Interstate 35. They will compete against Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Creston, East Union, Eddyville, Knoxville, MSM, Moravia, Mount Ayr, North Mahaska, Oskaloosa, Pleasantville, SE Warren, Wayne, West Central Valley and Winterset. Head Coach Mike Greving has not seen a lot of these teams during the season
Atlantic will send six wrestlers including Junior Hailey Armstrong who could be the #1 seed at 235 with a 32-2 record. Greving is also hoping Junior Cadence Kinzie who is 26-7 at 115 and Freshman Leiah Thomas who is 18-10 at 155 can get into the top two of their brackets
Also on the mat for the Trojans Senior Hailey Huffman at 130, Sophomore Alivia Knuth at 140 and Junior Lilly Johnson at 145 who is just coming back from injury. This will be the last meet for some and for others it could be the state tournament. Greving says he believes the girls are ready
The wrestling starts at 4 pm tonight.
