(Red Oak, IA) — Girls Wrestlers will be trying to qualify for the state tournament tonight across the state and Red Oak will be hosting a region tonight. Many teams from West Central Iowa will be going including Audubon, Carroll, Clarinda, Clarke, Glenwood, Harlan, Interstate 35, Kuemper Catholic, Logan Magnolia/Woodbine, Missouri Valley, Panorama, Riverside, Shenandoah, Southwest Iowa, Southwest Valley/Lenox/Bedford, SWAT and Treynor.
Some of the best talent at 125 and 120 pounds will be competing. Molly Allen — the three time state champion from Riverside — reigns at 125 so girls have a decision to make. Stay at 125 or move up or move down. Other 125 pounders include Elle Stephens of Harlan who is 28-5, Morgan Dickinson of I-35 who is 25-19, Kacy LeMaster of Southwest Valley is 26-11 and Sadie Smith of Kuemper is 24-11.
If you move down to 120, there is Destiny Fry of SWAT who is 29-11, Audrina Johansen of Glenwood is 28-9, Deklyn Millen of Southwest Valley is 25-16 and Jocelyn Tackett of Southwest Iowa is 16-6. If you move up to 130, there’s Jordan Buffum of Lo Mag who is 41-7 or Nicole Bond of Red Oak is 28-7.
145 will be a tough weight class with Bailey Lillard of SWAT at 24-4, Caydi Shafer of Lo Mag is 40-16, Paige Baier from Griswold wrestling for Red Oak is 27-12, Kenzie Meader of Southwest Valley is 24-4 and Chloe Nelson of Shenandoah is 22-14.
At 170, Stella Beattie at SWAT will no doubt be the #1 seed at 36-3. Jalon Olson of Carroll is 37-11 and Emma Walker of Panorama is 29-7 — unless one moves to a different class, somebody will be disappointed. SWAT Head Coach Tyler South says Beattie is super focused for the challenge
