(Pottawattamie Co) Laura Monson, Education Coordinator for East and West Pottawattamie Soil and Water, highlighted a year of impactful conservation education and outreach, including programs that reached over 1,000 students and celebrated a local poster contest winner advancing to Nationals.
Laura Monson, appearing at the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, said the focus is to lead a childhood and public education outreach program focused on conservation, agriculture, land stewardship and the environment.
Monson said she has visited the AHSTW, Riverside, Tri-Center, Treynor, Underwood and Titan Hill schools, reaching over 1,000 students.
Monson said outside of the classroom she does several outdoor programs and outreach events throughout the entire year.
Monson said one of the poster contest winners from the East Pottawattamie Soil and Water Conservation District, Chen Gao, won the Regional poster contest, the State contest, and will go on to Nationals.
Beyond student outreach, Monson said they also do a lot of community outreach and one of her favorite events to put on is the Women Landowners meeting. Those are just a few highlights of the numerous events put on by the East and West Pottawattamie Soil and Water Conservation Districts each year.
