(Carroll) The Atlantic girls’ basketball team secured its third consecutive victory on Friday night with a commanding 58-39 win over Kuemper.
The Trojans wasted no time establishing dominance, surging to a 22-4 lead in the first quarter. Katrina Williams led the charge with 12 points in the opening frame, primarily scoring in the paint. Kuemper found their rhythm in the second quarter, tallying 16 points and trimming Atlantic’s lead to 34-22 at halftime. Kaylie Simons paced Kuemper with 12 points in the half, including three three-pointers.
Atlantic resumed its strong play in the third quarter, replicating its early success with a 16-6 run to build a 50-29 advantage. Makenna Schroeder ignited the offense with two three-pointers, while Paytn Harter was perfect from the free-throw line, going 6-for-6.
Williams led the Trojans with a game-high 20 points, followed by Harter with 19, Schroeder with 11, Zoey Kirchhoff with 6, and Lila Wiederstein with 2.
For Kuemper, Simons scored a team-high 12 points, Elsa Tiefenthaler added 11, Karsyn Overmohle contributed 8, Addy Anthofer scored 5, and Morgan Mashing finished with 3.
Atlantic, now 8-4 on the season, will host Clarinda on Tuesday, January 14. Kuemper, falling to 6-6, is set to host East Sac County later this afternoon.
