(Atlantic) Evan Sorensen of Atlantic defeated Joe Constable of Fort Dodge 10-4 to claim the 285-pound championship at the 2024 Council Bluffs Classic Wrestling Tournament. Sorensen, the tournament’s top seed, powered through the competition with dominant victories, earning pins in both the first and quarterfinal rounds, followed by a 15-2 major decision in the semifinals. He capped off his impressive two-day performance with the 10-4 win over Constable to secure the title. The Trojans finished 7th overall out of 41 teams, accumulating 298.5 points.
Aiden Smith, competing at 138 pounds, earned runner-up honors. The Northwestern College commit went on a strong run, securing a fall, a decision, and a 7-4 overtime win in the semifinals. However, in the finals, Smith fell to Cole Krutzfeldt of Iowa City West, 7-2.
Atlantic’s Collin Harris (113) and Braxton Hass (126) each finished fourth in their respective weight classes, while freshman Keaton Schroeder (106) placed seventh, rounding out the Trojans’ top ten finishers.
Additional notable performances for Atlantic included Carter Hadley (132) finishing 21st, Kalvin Hayes (144) taking 17th, Jayden Harter (150) placing 20th, Donovan Hedrington (190) finishing 13th, and Dreven Smith (157) ending up 28th.
