9:00 am Class 2A: West Lyon 42, Spirit Lake 7
The Wildcats hold the Indians to just 8 net yards rushing in the game and forced five turnovers. For West Lyon, Tate Hawf had 17 carries for 114 yards and 2 TD. Bryson Childress had a 41 yard TD run. Only score for Spirit Lake was a 63 yard TD pass from Caden Lundt to Dylan Stecker. For West Lyon, it is their 6th career state title in school history.
1:00 pm Class 3A: Dubuque Wahlert 49, Humboldt 14
The Golden Eagles dominated from beginning to end. Michael Bormann had 21 carries for 124 yards and 1 TD. Tom Scherr had 5 receptions for 124 yards and 1 TD. After Wahlert scored on their opening possession, Cash McIntire had an 80 yard TD run for Humboldt to tie the game at 7-7. Wahlert would score 4 TD’s in a row to end the first half with a 35-7 lead.
7:00 pm Class 5A: SE Polk 38, Valley 35
Its a 3 peat for the Rams and they needed some luck and a late touchdown to do it. The Tigers trailed 24-14 going into the final period — Drake DeGroote threw a 14 yard TD pass to Zay Robinson to cut the lead to 3. On SE Polk’s next drive, Andrew Price intercepted a Holden Hansen and returned it 53 yards for a go ahead TD to make it 28-24 Valley. After a Ram punt, Valley went down the field quickly and King Coleman scored on a 3 yard TD to make it 35-24. SE Polk answered with a 41 yard TD from Hansen to Kaden Hills but the 2 point conversion failed and the Rams still trailed 35-30 with 1:24 left. SE Polk would try and an onside kick, Valley initially had the ball but fumbled it at midfield and Kaden Hills for the Rams recovered. SE Polk moved down the the Valley 13 yard line and facing a 4th and 5, Hansen rushed for 8 yards for the first down and then Hansen would score a 5 yard TD with 21 seconds left for one of the most incredible comebacks in championship history. Hansen was 24-37 passing for 332 yards, 3 TD and 1 INT.
