(Harlan) DNR Fisheries Biologist John Lorenzen says whole lake treatment is being conducted in late November and early December. The project targets curly-leaf pondweed. Lorenzen says they are using a product called Sonar, which treats the plant immediately before it ices up without affecting the native plants.
Lorenzen starts to sprout during this time of year and will remain alive and green under the ice. He says it then explodes and becomes a problem by outcompeting native plants right away in the spring.
Lorenzen says this treatment should improve shoreline fishing next spring and prep the lake for other management activities planned for April.
