(Massena, IA) The Massena City Council is currently working on several projects, including housing development, street improvements, and upgrades to the water system. City Councilman Doug Venteicher reported that the Clarke Avenue project is underway and is expected to be completed this spring.
The goal of the project is to straighten the curve in the roadway. Seeding and landscaping work will finalize the project this season. The water main replacement project has been completed, and the focus has shifted to installing meters. Out of a total of 180 meters, 40 have already been installed. Venteicher indicated that this project is funded through Tax Increment Financing and a USDA grant and will help address issues related to water line breakages. The next initiative will be to improve the town’s water quality, with plans to dig test wells by the end of the year.
Venteicher also announced that the city has been approved for a Home For Iowa Program grant. A 1,200-square-foot home featuring a full basement, three bedrooms, and two bathrooms is scheduled to be shipped to Massena in mid-May and will be placed on one of the city lots.
In other news, the Massena Chamber of Commerce is preparing for the sixth Annual Lighted Christmas Parade, which will take place on November 30, starting at 6:00 p.m. on Main Street. Santa Claus will be in town from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and will remain after the parade. Fireworks will follow the parade, and a fundraiser meal will be held to support CAM Cub Daycare at the Massena Fire Station.
