(Guthrie Center) It’s round two between these two Class A District #7 teams. Mt. Ayr is at ACGC tonight. The Chargers won the regular season bout 40-14 three weeks ago at Guthrie Center. The two foes match up again in the second round of post-season play. The Raiders topped Earlham in a shootout 58-50. One of three undefeated teams in Class A, the Chargers eliminated Wayne 28-0.
ACGC Head Coach Cody Matthewson says the defense is much improved, something that has been a focus of theirs recently.
The Chargers are playing in the round of 16 for the fourth consecutive season. This is also the fourth time these two squads have squared off since week 7 of last year. Coach Matthewson says it’s difficult for either team to play four times in almost an entire calendar year.
The Raiders have 2,281 rushing yards and 1,083 passing. Jackson Ruggles is 47/69, throwing the ball for 847 yards, and backup Trevin Victor is 4/7 for 143. Tate Dugan is the leading receiver with 20 catches for 360 yards and six touchdowns.
ACGC’s run game is challenging to stop, with 415 carries for 3,483 yards, an 8.4 yards per carry average, and 43 touchdowns. Mike Fuller leads the ball carriers with 148 totes for 1,0344 yards, Jathan South, 966, and Joe Crawford, 872. South is 25-38, passing for 478 yards and 7 touchdowns.
The kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Guthrie Center.
