Iowa Drought Expands

(Des Moines, IA) — Dry conditions are expanding in Iowa. This week’s U-S Drought Monitor Map shows nearly all of Iowa in moderate drought. Parts of northeast and western Iowa are in severe drought. Tim Hall, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says any rain that falls over the next week will soak in, and not have much impact on rivers and streams. The Raccoon River in Des Moines is very low, prompting flash boards to be re-installed. Des Moines WaterWorks says there’s plenty of capacity at Saylorville and the Des Moines River, and demand is lower this time of year, so restrictions are not necessary.
