(Atlantic) Atlantic extended its record to 2-0 with a 62-7 win over Clarke in a non-district football game at Atlantic on Friday.
The Trojans dominated the first half, scoring early and often. On the Trojans’ opening drive, Ethan McNeal broke free on an edge play and raced 65 yards for a touchdown. The home team added three more touchdowns in the first quarter. Senior Quarterback Tristan Hayes connected with senior wideout Jarrett Hansen on back-to-back plays, resulting in a 16-yard pass and a 50-yard catch and run. Tyson O’Brien then polished off the first quarter, scoring with a 13-yard run, giving the Trojans a 28-0 lead.
The Trojans continued their momentum in the second quarter. Gavin McLaren scored his fifth touchdown of the season on a six-yard run, Hayes threw a 35-yard TD pass to Corbin Ritter, and Derrick Wood recovered a Clarke fumble in the end zone, bringing the score to 48-0 at halftime.
With a running clock in the second half, Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer gave the starters the rest of the night off and cleared his bench. Back-up fullback Colin Rudy scored on a five-yard dive play, and freshman Zander Killion broke loose on a 13-yard run. Between those two scores, Clarke quarterback Ryan Diehl found Brock Nall on a 29-yard pass play.
Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer said the team executed very well and had a few penalties, most aggressive penalties downfield.
Next up for Atlantic next Friday night is a trip to Glenwood. Clarke is at Knoxville.
