(Oakland) Riverside is looking to improve on its 4-5 record from one year ago when it missed the playoffs. Bulldogs Head Coach Darrell Frain named a quarterback last weekend, winning the position over about five other prospects. Coach Frain decided at the Bulldog’s scrimmage against Treynor one week ago.
Riverside returns veteran running back Jackson Gordon. One year ago, Gordon rushed for 1,266 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 5.9 yards per carry. Head Coach Darrell Frain says Gordon is a tough, hard-nosed kid.
The Bulldogs face West Monona. One year ago, the Bulldogs won the season opener over West Monona 40-0. Coach Frain says the biggest challenge is facing a Spartan team with an entirely new coaching staff.
Chase Lander returns at quarterback for the Spartans from a team that went 1-8 one year ago. Lander completed 38.7 percent of his passes for 536 yards and five touchdowns. Elias Sorensen returns in the backfield after gaining 383 yards one year ago as a sophomore. Brayden Komarek, the Spartan’s leading receiver from one year, returns following (10 catches, 156 yards, and one touchdown). On the defensive end, Ben Halvorsen returns for his junior year, coming off a sophomore season with 30.5 tackles and 24 solos.
The kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Riverside.
