(Guthrie Center, IA) The Guthrie County Supervisors discussed multiple things in their meeting today and one of them included emergency medical services (EMS). The county is trying to make EMS an essential service and has been in the process for nearly a year. The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors is trying to figure out what EMS as an essential service would look like.
The process of making EMS an essential service would mean citizens of Guthrie County would pay a 75-cent levy per $1,000. The language that will be on the ballot come November was introduced today for the first time. Despite discussing the ballot language, the coverage areas are still in the works.
The county supervisors are working hard to get this passed, and are talking to important stakeholders in the town to attend meetings and educate the citizens of Guthrie County and persuade them as to why they should vote for a tax levy for EMS essential services.
The vote for a tax levy on EMS Essential Service will be put on the ballot in November, and needs a 60% approval to be passed.
