(Lewis) Normally, channel catfish are stocked in southwest Iowa on odd years from the Lake Rathbun Hatchery. The DNR stocked lakes in the state’s southwest region, but the incubator was short of fish, and Lake Anita and Prairie Rose were left out.
John Lorenzen, DNR Fisheries Biologist, says channel catfish typically don’t reproduce in this region’s lakes or ponds, so they need to be stocked.
The DNR stocked 433 catfish at Lake Anita, 245 at Prairie Rose, and 50 at the Cass County Education Pond.
