(Iowa City, IA) – Iowa football’s Jay Higgins has been named a 2024 Walter Camp Preseason First-Team All-American. This is the third preseason honor after Higgins was named a preseason first-team All-American by Phil Steele and Athlon.
A total of three Hawkeyes have been named Walter Camp All-Americans in 2023 including Cooper DeJean, Tory Taylor, and Jay Higgins. Iowa has featured an All-American for the last ten years in preseason accolades. The Indianapolis native started as the middle linebacker in 14 games while leading the Hawkeyes in tackles with 171 with 79 solo tackles and 92 assists. Just a season ago, Higgins earned All-America honors from eight different outlets and was Iowa’s Roy Carver Most Valuable Player on defense.
Higgins helped to lead a defense that ranked fourth nationally after giving up just 14.8 points per game. He finished last season with 15+ tackles in three games and a total of 10+ tackles in ten games.
Iowa will jump into the beginning of the season on August 31st as they take on Illinois State at 11:00 a.m. at Kinnick Stadium.
