(Eugene, OR) – At the United States Olympic Track and Field Trials, three former Drake Relays Champions are going to the finals. They’ll go to participate in France for the 2024 Summer Olympics after the finals races this Sunday.
During day two, Iowa’s Austin West came in sixth in the Decathlon with a total of 8018 points overall. In the first round of the men’s 100-meter dash, former Indian Hills Community College sprinter, Kenny Bednarek, earned a time of just 10 seconds flat to advance to the semifinals. Continuing with the 100-meter dash, Courtney Lindsey, formally of Iowa Central Community College earned a time of 10 seconds flat to go to the semifinals. Iowa’s Kalen Walker also is headed to the semifinals with a time of 10.23 seconds.
In the shot put, former Hawkeye, Nick Curtis, earned 12th with a throw of 63-10.5. In heat five of the 100-meter dash, former UNI Panther Brandon Carnes didn’t advance to the semifinals after running 10.32 seconds. In the women’s 400-meter dash, Rachel Joseph of Iowa State ran 50.74 seconds in heat three and will not advance to the finals race.
The athletes advancing will move on to Sunday to see who will be going into the finals, and eventually, on the U.S. Olympic Team.
