(Greenfield, IA) – The Nodaway Valley Wolverines were able to split the series in last night’s (Thursday) doubleheader against Lenox.
In the first game of action, the Wolverines fell to Lenox 7-5 and featured pitcher Jorja Holliday who threw in eight innings of action, gave up 14 hits, five earned runs, and struck out 11 batters on the night. Overall, Nodaway Valley had 12 hits and struck out just six times on the night while earning just four errors on the field. Grace Klobnak led the team in hits with three while Caroline Britten was able to knock in two RBIs.
While the Wolverines didn’t capture the win in that contest, Holliday went into the second game ready to get back at the Tigers. The Senior pitched in four innings of action and allowed just four hits and no earned runs while striking out two. Nodaway Valley had 10 hits and a grand slam by Caroline Britten as she led the team with five RBIs in the ballgame and had two hits. Grace Klobnak also had two hits and two RBIs in the game while Taylor Laughery, Addison Glade, Chloe Rardin, Lea Stonebraker, Kynnady Van Eaton, and Kacie Ford all recorded singles.
Holliday’s combined 13 strikeouts in both games helped record over 500 strikeouts for the senior in her career, an impressive achievement. Caroline Britten’s grand slam was the first of her career and one that changed the course of the ballgame for Nodaway Valley.
The Wolverines return to action tonight against Mount Ayr for their senior night, which begins at 5:30 p.m.
