(Corning, IA)- With discus and shot-put canceled Thursday night, that didn’t stop the Griswold girls from taking a tight victory in their meet at Southwest Valley with other area teams including Audubon and Red Oak. The three schools would round out the top three with the Tigers in first with 81 points, Red Oak with 80, and Audubon with 70. Meanwhile, the boys’ meet would be a 69-point third-place finish for Audubon and a 67-point fourth-place finish for Exira-EHK.
Griswold girls would be helped by top finishes in the relay races including the Distance Medley and 4×100 Shuttle Hurdle. The Tigers would also place second in the 4×800 and third in the 4×400. The Lady Wheelers picked up a couple of top 3 finishes in their relays as well, with second place in the 800 Sprint Medley and the 4×100.
Top single performers for Griswold girls included Carsyn Adams taking second place in the 400m Hurdles in 1:13.23 plus third place in the 400m Dash with 1:04.25, the 100m Hurdles with 17.47. Jaelynn Peterson for Audubon would have herself a second place medal in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet 8 inches. Kadence Brannan-Sporrer placed third for the Wheelers in the 1500m Run with a time of 5:36.11.
On the boys’ side of the meet, Audubon earned a second-place finish in the 4×110 Shuttle Hurdle but controlled multiple other relays with first-place medals in the 4×400 Relay, 800m Sprint Relay, and the Distance Medley. Exira-EHK would take second in the 4×800 Relay.
The Wheelers earned top performances from Ezekiel Konkler taking first in the 800m in 2:08.40, third place in the 3200m Run in 11:53.64 from Eli Deist, and Aaron Olsen running an 11.29 100m Dash for fourth place. Cash Emgarten would continue to star for Exira-EHK taking first in the 100m and 200m Dashes with times of 11.01 and 22.38 respectively. Austin Rasmussen would also earn top spots in the long-distance runs with a 10:54.91 first-place finish in the 3200m run and a second-place time in the 1600m Run with 5:10.72.
