(Oakland, IA) – Even as today’s weather may not feel like it, boy’s soccer season is coming up faster than we know it. The Riverside Bulldogs have had the last two weeks to prepare for this upcoming season, one that they wish to turn around from last year. Head Coach Rick Ryun is getting his boys ready for every aspect of the game this season from passing, to shooting, to ball handling.
Riverside features a total of 17 athletes who look to take the field this season. The Bulldogs feature multiple boys who are dual sport athletes which brings a bit of a challenge this season for developing the program even further, but Coach Ryun supports the boys working hard for Bulldog athletics.
Out of those 17 athletes going out this season, seven of them are freshmen. They also feature a few returning key pieces from last season, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Last year, Riverside had one of their least productive seasons with just one win in their first game of the year. While that may not look like a positive aspect, they did finish the season with a 3-2 loss to Tri-Center in the first round of postseason action, a team that previously shut out Riverside in the regular season. Coach Ryun is looking for his boys to utilize teamwork this season and that starts with their passing game.
Riverside starts the regular season next week on Friday, April 5th at Council Bluffs Jefferson at 5:00 p.m.
