(Griswold) Griswold Schools Superintendent Dave Henrichs and the School Board are considering adding a School Resource Officer for next school year. Henrichs says school administrators met with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office on March 6th to discuss their options.
Dave Henrichs says the addition also brings with it a financial commitment.
Henrichs says the total cost of a full-time resource officer with salary, benefits, and a vehicle would be around $114,000 annually. He says there is a bill in the Iowa legislature that, if it passes as it is written today, school districts could be eligible for up to $50,000 for this purpose. Henrichs says this would work because they could partner with another school district, reducing the cost to around $7,000.00 per district.
Henrichs says the Griswold School Board is interested if they can receive this funding. But again, they must wait and see if the legislature passes the bill.
