(Anita, IA) – In the second year of CAM’s wrestling program, the Cougars are already starting to impress many people as the team matures and grows with the early portion of the season. Two wrestlers who stand out are Owen Hoover and Tristan Becker who saw dominant performances last Saturday in the Riverside Invite. Hoover went on to finish in 3rd overall in class 175 while Becker was able to make it to the quarterfinals. Head coach Derek Knisely is hoping that their performances continue to spark success for his wrestlers along the way.
A few wrestlers have started to step up this season including Kason Calhoun and Brentyn Hoover. These freshmen are looking not only at the regional level but the state level.
This week, CAM has not wrestled in any duals or quads so they are able to get their technique down while also getting in even better physical condition for the upcoming tournament on Saturday in Carroll.
Coach Knisely has high expectations this weekend for his Cougars, and are much-deserved expectations. Owen Hoover is looking to be in the top three while he expects Tristan Becker to land around third or fourth in the Carroll Invitational. However, you cannot count out the other freshmen on this squad who are surprising other teams around the area.
With the upcoming winter break coming up, the Cougars are looking ahead at planning how the following weeks will look. Saturday’s tournament will be their last of the year until they wrestle again in January so conditioning is a must these next few weeks.
CAM will be taking on area teams Carroll, Kuemper Catholic, and Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln among many others this Saturday at Carroll starting at 10:00 a.m.
