(Area) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is reminding hunters about the deer donation programs.
Bryan Hayes, with the DNR Office in Lewis, said one of those programs is HUSH (Help Us Stop Hunger).
Last year, 3,250 deer were donated through the HUSH program, generating over 5,000 meals for less fortunate Iowans. There are 34 meat lockers in Iowa that participate in the HUSH program.
The other program is called the Iowa Deer Exchange. Hayes said you can visit iowadnr.gov and sign up if you are willing to donate venison or if you are someone looking to receive venison.
