(Audubon) The Audubon County Board of Supervisors discussed increasing the setbacks for the future wind turbine project near Brayton.
Audubon County Supervisor Chairman Doug Sorensen received several requests to increase the setback between the turbine and the dwelling. He says they discussed this last week and are trying to determine the rules.
Sorensen says it will be up to the Planning and Zoning Commission to make any changes to the setbacks. The setback in Audubon County is currently 1,000 feet; the previous project was 1,200 feet, the standard throughout Iowa. The Supervisors have received requests to go as high as 2,500 feet.
The item will be on next Tuesday’s agenda. The meeting starts at 9:00 a.m. in the Supervisors Room in the Audubon County Courthouse.
The signup has started; construction will begin in 2027-2028.
