(Winterset) Winterset and Atlantic, two familiar foes of the past, matchup Friday night in a non-district football game at Atlantic. Winterset Head Football Coach Zach Sweeney remembers playing Atlantic in his first year as a head coach in 2001. The last time the two teams matched up was in 2017.
Last week, Winterset survived an 8-0 deficit early and defeated Carlisle 28-11. The Huskies found themselves behind the eight-ball early after a miscue at the Wildcats goal line.
Huskies quarterback Hunter Lyon completed 7-11 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Hank Wilmes caught three passes for 114 yards and carried the ball 27 times for 130 yards.
Winterset has a leg up on special teams in a lot of games. The Huskies kicker, Luke Linde, is versatile. The senior is a starting defensive back who kicks and kicks quite well. Last Friday against Carlisle, Linde kicked a school record 44-yard field. Thus far this season, Linde has made three out of four field goals and 7-out-of-eight PATS.
The Huskies face Atlantic on Friday night. Coach Sweeney points to several playmakers who will challenge his football team.
