(Atlantic) Atlantic Kindergarten through 12th-grade students now have free admission to all regular-season sporting events. The School Board approved the plan on Wednesday.
Schools Superintendent Beth Johnsen says the idea arose during an informal discussion on improving attendance and school spirit in the Trojan Community.
Atlantic Business Manager Lisa Jones says this gives students who might be unable to attend a football or basketball game the opportunity.
Athletic Director Andy Mitchell says elementary students must still be with an adult to enter a sporting event.
In past years the game officials were paid out of ticket sales. For instance, during the 2022-2023 school year, the district paid Officials $42,000. This expense will now come from the general fund.
The first home football game is on September 1, at Trojan Bowl. The free admission does not apply to school musicals and plays.
