This week on The Upcoming Podcast, we talked to Riverside Cross-Country senior Becca Cody. Last season, she ran her Iowa State Qualifying time of 24:43.9 in the Ridge View 5000-meter meet. Her overall best was in 2021 when she ran a 21:58.0 finishing 7th in the Iowa State qualifying meet at Southwest Valley. As Cody is one of the better runners in the state, she is looking forward to going back to basics and getting to know the girls running beside her during her senior season.
Training throughout the summer is crucial for cross-country athletes. It helps to not only build your strength but helps to build endurance to prepare for the upcoming season. Becca has been training all summer long in specific workouts to improve her overall strength and stamina.
Becca is a successful leader and athlete for the Riverside Bulldogs, but she also has a lot on her plate outside cross-country. She is involved in Track, Dance, 4H, FFA, and County Youth Council which keeps her busy all year long. These activities may keep her busy, but they also help to build leadership aspects, something Becca has great experience in.
Cody was beyond successful this year in 4H as she earned a few big awards with her Heffer and her expert showmanship skills.
Riverside will start racing in a little under a month with their first meet on September 2nd at Iowa Western Community College at 8:45 am. Check out the full podcast with Becca Cody by clicking here.
