(Brayton) The Brayton and Exira Fire Departments were called to a barn fire southwest of Brayton on Saturday Afternoon.
Brayton Fire Chief Ben Riesgaard tells KSOM/KS95 News the call went out at 4:03 p.m. When firefighters arrived, the structure was completely engulfed in flames. The heat and debris sparked a small field fire across the road southeast of the burning structure. A grass unit subdued the fire with assistance from a tractor and disk.
Chief Riesgaard says an old burn pile reignited and started the barn on fire. The blaze burnt the structure to the ground, including its contents. The heat from the fire also melted some siding on the property owner’s home.
The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office and Audubon County Emergency Management Coordinator Tyler Thygesen assisted the Brayton and Exira Fire Department at the scene.
