(Nodaway) Iowa District #9 State Senator Tom Shipley says as we end the 12th week of the 2023 Iowa Legislative session, the issues have been narrowed down.
Shipley says one of the bills that survived the final funnel week is additional penalties against bicyclists. This is a proposed is piece of legislation in Iowa that seeks to ensure equal treatment of all road users by creating standard penalties for bicycle crashes that are the same as those for motorists and pedestrian crashes.
Senator Shipley says he doesn’t know why it has taken this long. This penalty is not likely to deter crashes but would create consistency in the Iowa code.
