(Iowa City, IA) — A report finds Iowa has the 2nd highest rate of cancer in the U-S behind Kentucky- a state with higher smoking rates.
University of Iowa Professor Mary Charlton says the data is age-adjusted. She also says rates are higher in Iowa compared to other states, where the same farm chemicals are used. She says possible factors could be related to diet, alcohol consumption, and physical inactivity. Charlton says on the plus side, cancers are being caught early when they are more treatable.
