(Des Moines) Changes could be coming to a nutrition assistance program under a bill proposed by 39 House Republicans. The food people can get through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program would be the same foods approved for the Women, Infants, and Children program under a bill in the Iowa House. If passed, SNAP recipients would no longer be able to use the program to buy foods such as white bread, fresh meat, flour, and butter. Nearly 300-thousand Iowans relied on the program in 2021.
