(Audubon) A 16-foot timber bridge in Audubon County’s Leroy Township has repeatedly been damaged. The bridge is known as the Leroy 8 bridge.
County Engineer Mitch Rydl reported at the Audubon County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday that repairs have been made, but heavy machinery needs to stay off.
Supervisor’s Chairman Doug Sorensen says, “It has twice had someone go through with apparently large farm equipment that has broken the rails or shoved them out and damaged them. They put them back on, but he said they anchored them this time so they are going to be much harder to move, but if somebody does this again they will probably damage the bridge more severely.”
The Supervisors are pleading large equipment operators to avoid the structure. “We don’t know who has done this, but we are just asking whoever is doing it to keep the big equipment from doing it. Don’t damage the bridge. We’d like to have it last another three or four years so we can get it replaced and you won’t have a closed road. Besides, this has cost the county time and money to fix it.”
The bridge is due to be replaced in 2026.
