(Des Moines, IA) — State Fire Marshal Dan Wood says burn bans are in effect in five Iowa counties. This week’s field fire in northwest Iowa caused more than a half-million dollars in damage. In southeast Iowa, three fire departments were dispatched to battle a blaze in the field that was being harvested. Wood says because dry conditions are expected over the next week more county burn bans will probably be posted. The latest Iowa Drought Monitor report shows that 80 percent of the state is abnormally dry or experiencing some level of drought.
