(Atlantic) Des Moines Roosevelt took Atlantic in three sets on Thursday night at Atlantic. The Roughriders swept the match by the scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-13.
“We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy test, “said Atlantic Head Coach Michelle Blake. “We knew when we went to their place last year and upset a ranked Roosevelt team; they wanted to return the favor.”
Roosevelt evened their record at (1-1) after falling to Urbandale on Tuesday.
“It was evident they had a game under their belt and could work out their kinks,” said Blake.
Roosevelt set the tone for the night with a 5-0 lead in the first set. The Trojans crept within three 11-8, but following a time out, the visitors rolled out to a 17-9 lead, on their to a 25-18 victory.
“It’s about getting all of our parts together,” said Blake. “We can do great things; we just can’t wait for them to happen; we must go out and make them happen.”
Atlantic kept the second set close early, knotted the score at 8-8, and kept it close until late in the match, but the Roughriders closed it out with a 10-4 run.
Roosevelt opened a 19-10 lead in the final set and cruised to a 25-13 final.
The Roughriders hit .353, hammered out 30-kills, 34 digs, and served 93 percent, including 12 aces.
Lexi Noelck and Jada Jensen led the team with four kills on 17 attempts, Noelck 11 assists, Abby Smith eight digs, and Ava Rush fired off three ace serves for the Trojans.
Atlantic plays at the AHSTW Tournament on Saturday. Roosevelt is at Bondurant-Farrar.
