(Creston) The Southwestern Community College record book was not safe when CAM graduate Molly Venteicher was in the ring last season.
The freshman thrower set and lowered her own school standards on multiple occasions. “I really liked it. It was a new experience doing everything with hammer and javelin. Winter you had to do the weighted throw and you had to have coordination to spin around. You had to go from the basics and then after you got that you could keep going up and up.”
Practices and the training regiment have become a lot more extensive compared to high school. “With high school you just get a couple of months to do it and you have other sports. With college you get to do it it all year round and that’s the one thing you’re just doing.”
An opportunity at a four year school could be next. “I haven’t decided yet, but I have some interest with that.”
Venteicher was a national qualifier. In April she was named Athlete of the Week for the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.
