(Cass Co.) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning approved a letter of support for the City of Atlantic Housing project.
Christina Bateman, who is on the Land Committee, explained to the Board that they have been working on getting a new housing development going in Atlantic and a landowner, Jim Comes, agreed to sell some land off of Olive and 22nd Street. In the meantime, there is an Iowa Economic Development Destination Iowa grant that they have been made aware of…
Bateman said the grant application opens May 9th. She said Alexsis Fleener with SWIPCO suggested getting letters of support from each of the community entities and businesses stating that they support the City of Atlantic Housing project. The Supervisors unanimously approved signing the letter of support. Bateman noted that they will be going to the City Council Wednesday evening for approval to apply for this grant.
In other activity, the Supervisors officially approved the distribution of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for the childcare centers in Griswold ($150,000), Massena ($35,000) and the YMCA in Atlantic ($50,000). The Board also received a request for ARPA funding for the Anita Childcare Center; no action was taken. The Supervisors then discussed possibly providing funding for the Head Start north of Atlantic to put in some hard surfacing so the children have space to ride bicycles and develop motor skills.
