(Des Moines, IA) — Two more Iowa commercial bird flocks have been confirmed with avian flu.
Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig announced Tuesday that a Guthrie County layer facility with one-and-a-half-million birds and a Hamilton County turkey facility with 28-thousand birds are infected. Naig says there are nine total cases in the state of Iowa now. Unlike the outbreak in 2015, he says there doesn’t appear to be any facility-to-facility spread this time.
Naig says there is a strong indication the virus is being carried by the wild bird population.
