(Atlantic) The Atlantic Parks and Recreation Board could take no action Monday evening due to a lack of a quorum. The board is planning to hold a special meeting later this week.
Bryant Rasmussen, Parks and Recreation Director, said one of the main items the Board needs to decide on is the Sunnyside Pool Season Pass Rates.
Rasmussen said they contacted all of the members from last year to tell them that the rate going up is a possibility and they were given the opportunity to get in on last year’s rates before they go up this year. Rasmussen said that was a way to show their appreciation for being a supporter of the Sunnyside Pool. The rates last year were $90 for a family pass and $75 for an individual pass.
Rasmussen said they have contacted other pools and they are the lowest of any pool in the area by 30 to 40 dollars. He said the Sunnyside Pool fees have not increased in the three years he has been there.
City Council Liaison Gerald Brink asked how far the $14,000 (they were previously paying the YMCA to help out with the Sunnyside Pool) will go.
The daily rate is currently three-dollars. Board Member John Krogman said that rate is something they need to watch too.
Rasmussen said he continues to look into ways to help out individuals who may not be able to afford to go to the pool. He said they have contacted businesses to see if they can offer up free pool party nights and they are working with Cass Health to have free pool days during the summer. Rasmussen said they also have free day passes that are given out through places like the Chamber, the Library, the Police Department, and the Hospital.
Meanwhile, Rasmussen said another thing to look at are ways to work in other lifeguard incentives besides the increase in their wage, such as paying for their certifications and providing meals.
