(Area) Several hunting seasons will wrap up over the next week and a half
Just over one week remains for hunters in a variety of seasons.
“The pheasant season gets pretty short when you get past New Year’s. January 10th the archery deer season closes. So January 10th the pheasant season will close. That same date the late muzzleloader deer season closes and the archery season closes. So January 10th is one of those milestone dates. We’ll start closing seasons.”
Bryan Hayes with the Iowa DNR Office in Lewis points out the deer harvest with ten days remaining stood at 91,000.
“We have that goal to be somewhere around 100,000 to 120,000 in the annual harvest. We are at 91,000 going into the last ten days of the late muzzleloader and archery season so it’ll be interesting to see if we hit that mark this year.”
2021 hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses expire January 10th. Hayes adds January 15th marks the close of the central zone goose season while the south zone closes January 22nd.
